Rookie Ratings, Buy or Sell on Early Season Trends
Bad Men, Bad Takes – Season 1, Episode 30
Ah, rookie players.
We all love them.
Whether you’re a struggling team searching for the next face of the franchise, or a contender who is hoping a contributor on a cheap contract can help take you over the top, optimism abounds around the draft every year.
Then the regular season starts, and it quickly sorts the men from the boys and fans get to see how their new favourite players stack up against the world’s elite.
The results are usually a bit of a mixed bag, and the 2021 Rookie Class has proven this fact yet again. There are always surprises to come out of every draft and jump out of the blocks to start the season, and none have been better in Rob’s eyes than Indiana’s Chris Duarte.
“Duarte has been amazing for the Pacers”, he said.
“Any rookie needs two things to succeed in their first season – the right system, and opportunity. Duarte seems to have found both with the Pacers and has been a perfect fit in Carlisle’s system while Caris LeVert missed the start of the season”.

Duarte has averaged 17.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists on 42% three-point shooting through Indiana’s first eight games, but Hunter believed a player on the Rockets could well be posting great numbers, if only he would be given the opportunity.
“The Castaway, Alperen Sengun, is a beast, but Silas just doesn’t play him”, he said.
“They need to get rid of Theis as a starter – he’s eating up way too many of Sengun’s minutes”.
